Here are some postcards from Barcelona that I brought and repeated to make a few new pieces, that are Warhol-esque due to the repetition. The idea came from Patrick Thomas’ lecture. He said that he collected lots of versions of the same postcard and put them together to make new compositions… so, that’s what I’ve done! The results are pretty cool. But then again, the photographs are awesome on their own and I can’t claim any glory for them… unfortunately!

Above are some old sports stickers I came across at the flea market in Barcelona. They make a nice little set, I think.

A couple of old photographs I picked up. They may seem quite strange things to pick up, but I just love the worn cardboard cases, the old-fashioned hand-writing and the classic portraiture style.

Here’s another haggard book from one of Barca’s flea markets.

We visited a flea market in Barcelona, and I managed to pick up some really old and haggard books, photographs and stickers. Above is a few pages from one of the books I picked up. It’s all in Spanish/Catalan, so I have NO idea what it’s about, but I love the worn look, it has such great textures.

Just returned from an epic trip to Barcelona, which included a morning lecture at ELISAVA with graphic designer/illustrator, Patrick Thomas. Here are a few postcards of his work. His stuff was fairly simple and self explanatory, but composed in a really effective way.

His lecture was by far the best I have been to of late. After a big night out and not much sleep prior to this lecture I was concerned for my eyes as Patrick pulled the curtains to leave us in darkness. Thankfully he was a great speaker. Entertaining and with plenty of amazing work to keep us hooked.

I’m going to upload a few more of my collections from my time in Barca shortly and will probably put a few pics up on either flickr or facebook as well.

Typography installation.

I tried my homemade type with some perspective by pegging my characters on string outside of the recycling centre. I had three rows of string and text, from smallest to largest. When viewed from a specific angle the words should look like they’re the same size. Unfortunately, stinging nettles and overgrown bushes prevented me from getting it exactly right, but you get the idea.

Time is almost out though, so it looks like I’ll have to dig out one of the pictures from this set-up for crit and then try to improve it over easter.

bru-ha:

after a few hours we’d created 3 complete typefaces, these are they.

Great photos from a great little exercise.

Completed cube

Here is my final cube for the word ‘trust.’ I’m really pleased with the outcome. Unfortunately the photo’s above don’t do it justice, but you get the idea. What I really like is when you look through the windows, all of the colours inside are different, depending on what colour acetate you look through… it’s really fascinating, much like everyone’s different beliefs. Now I’ve got to crack on with the other two AND the poster… some long hours ahead!

Building!

Constructing my ‘trust’ cube…

Images for ‘trust’ cube

Here are my final images for my cube based on trust and different religions. I’ve used coloured acetate in order for the viewer to look into the cube and see different colours when light shines through… almost like stain-glass windows.

Here are some silhouettes I have cut with my best friend <the scalpel> depicting  various gods from different religions <with the theory of evolution, representing atheist views>. Religion links in really well with the word ‘trust’ from my current project. To believe in something is to trust something. I also quite like the way that people often follow the religion of their family members, so people from different backgrounds believe in different things due to the trust they have within their family.
IDEA! I think I can now link my three cubes together… religion often causes conflict in todays world, which disgusts <my third word!> a lot of people and in turn causes heartache. Pow, I think I may finally have some structure to this brief!!
Work in progress on our current brief to design three cubes that express certain emotions we have been given. Here are a few pieces relating to one of my words <sadness> and the progression of heartache through to depression. Happy days! My other two words are ‘Disgusted’ and ‘Trust.’ I’ve got so many ideas now, it’s just a question of getting them right and putting them on paper so to speak.

Spreading cancer cells OR fireworks!

Here are some experiments with multiplying cancer cells making a pretty nice pattern. Part of my studies into one of my Data Communication posters.

Handmade Mono Prints

Really enjoyed printing with these beauties… one of my favourite things!
